Why Isn’t Android Auto Wireless?

It would be nice if everything were wireless. Of course, the issue of security would raise its ugly head pretty quickly. Wireless communications are notoriously hackable around the world. Hence the need for extra security when utilizing wireless communications.

However, security is just one issue with wireless communication, especially when talking about integrated systems like Android Auto. Currently, the necessity of using a USB-cable to connect your smartphone to the dash, and thus the Android Auto System, captures that smartphone to the car’s system. The physical connection of a single smartphone to the vehicle’s system releases all other devices used inside the vehicle from the capture, so children and others can use their devices freely. A wireless connection would require all other connecting devices to remain unused to avoid communication failure.

At Subaru of Spokane, we can demonstrate for you the intricacies of smartphone and Android Auto communication.
